The Monterey, California area has a ton of stuff to do when you're not busy with wedding activities. The world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium is a great family friendly activity, and there is a lot of tourist attractions in town such as Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. It's close to many redwood forests (Henry Cowell State Park), beautiful beaches (Point Lobos, Big Sur), and much more for those looking for outdoorsy. Carmel-by-the-Sea nearby has a lot of upscale shopping and restaurants.

If you're up for a road trip, around 1 hour north is Silicon Valley and 2 hours north is San Francisco and the Muir Woods (more redwoods & hiking).
